Gervonta “Tank” Davis has emerged victorious against his American rival “King” Ryan Garcia, delivering the first defeat of Garcia’s career with a powerful body shot in the seventh round of their fight in Las Vegas. Davis, the 28-year-old five-time world champion from Baltimore, Maryland, now boasts a 29-0 record with 27 knockouts in the super-featherweight, lightweight, and super-lightweight divisions.
Although Garcia showed some good moments in the fight, Davis appeared to have the upper hand after the second round. The knockout blow came as Davis landed a perfectly placed punch to Garcia’s ribcage, taking advantage of an advancing Garcia. Although Garcia appeared to be able to fight on, he dropped to one knee after staggering back.
While no titles were on the line for this much-anticipated fight, it was a significant event with plenty of bragging rights and benefits at stake. Davis declared himself “the face of boxing” after the fight, and he plans to keep his head down, stay humble, and continue to work hard.
Garcia, who fell to 23-1 with 19 knockouts, will have to go back to the drawing board after his loss. He was gracious in defeat, calling it an honor to be in the ring with Davis. Garcia admitted he couldn’t breathe after the knockout blow and was unable to get back up.
Overall, the fight was a competitive one, and both Davis and Garcia showed their skills in the ring. However, it was Davis who ultimately emerged victorious with his impressive knockout in the seventh round.
